Having a strong skin barrier is the best defence against sensitivities - but how exactly do you restore the barrier?
Here are my top four ways you can build up your surface layer.
1. Go back to basics.
Our four week detox does just that. No actives, just basic skin products that are going to support building up your skin barrier.
2. Avoid scrubs.
Cut right back on any facial exfoliation... from products to cleansing cloths... these are too harsh for your skin and will only cause more redness and irritation.
3. Supplement your diet.
Adding in some essential fatty acids (EFAs) can do wonders to building up your skin barrier. They are anti-inflammatory so will help calm your skin and soothe aggravating conditions from the inside out. EFA's also help prevent water loss that can lead to irritation and discomfort.
4. Wear sunscreen.
One of the easiest ways to protect your skins barrier is by wearing a daily SPF - our favourite is dermaviduals as its natural and only contains the best ingredients for your skin.

Product love: Tenfione Semisomal Bath - Luxurious bath oil for sensitive and compromised skin.
Here are a few reasons why we LOVE this bath oil here at Adelaide Skin Therapy:
♡It nourishes and hydrates
♡ It's anti-inflammatory
♡ Because of it's high concentration of linoleic acid (omega 6)
♡ It supports the repair of skin barrier function
Tenfione Semisomal Bath contains natural oils including olive oil, avocado oil with the addition of vitamin E and urea to form its distinctive semisomal composition.
And how do we use it?
Add 10–20ml (a cap full) of Tenfione Semisomal Bath into warm bath water and gently stir until the water turns milky. Indulge in the lipid rich bath for up to 20 minutes.
Are you someone who always reaches for the latest skin exfoliator to "scrub away our dead skin" in order to reduce breakouts and have an even skin tone...
Every time you are pushing a barrier with your skin that doesn't need to be pushed you are forcing your new skin cells to mature at a faster rate because their barrier, the older skin cells you scrubbed away have just been stripped...
By the time these new skin cells reach the surface they look red, inflamed and dehydrated because they don't know how to do their job properly...
That's why, at Adelaide Skin Therapy we focus on corneotherapy - a customised skin care protocol that focuses on restoring the skin barrier function.
If you want to focus on building up your skin barrier and having your dream skin for good, chat to us so we can start you on your 4 week detox to perfect skin....
While not all fats are created equally, foods rich in omega-3 fatty acids can be beneficial for several health factors, including healthy skin. Omega-3s have strong anti-inflammatory properties, helping to suppress inflammatory responses related to everyday encounters like stress or poor diet.
So which foods contain healthy fats?
🥑 Oily fish such as salmon
🥑 Nuts such as walnuts and almonds
🥑 Chia seeds
🥑 Coconut oil
Everyones skin is different. So we suggest seeing what works best for your skin.

A little love for our Dermaviduals Liposome Concentrate Plus - an absolute must for acne, blemish or pimple prone skin.
This product delivers phosphatidylcholine, Linoleic acid (omega 6) and naturally occurring Azelaic acid to the skin.
And what do these properties do?
♢ Phosphatidylcholine is a major component of the skins cells membranes.
♢ Linoleic acid is very helpful to acneic skin as an anti inflammatory. It also helps to liquefy sebum which prevents it from plugging up the pore and causing blemishes.
♢ Azelaic acid helps to reduce the growth of bacteria in the pores, reduce inflammation, and normalise the growth of skin cells within the folicle lining. It is also an effective agent for reducing hyperpigmentation.
All of these actions are massively helpful for acne-prone skin.
Liposome Concentrate Plus will also help to reduce the chances of blackheads & whiteheads forming. The liposomes are very in rich in anti-inflammatory EFA's which support the prevention of blemishes and inflamed skin and help to calm down those hard, red, cystic spots that tend to form around the jaw line.
It will also help to prevent scarring after blemishes and soften the appearance of existing scars so it is very helpful for skin that suffers with acne and will also help to reduce the inflammation that accompanies Rosacea.
